Step 4: View Nisab Status & Zakat Due
The calculator checks if your net wealth exceeds the Nisab threshold (85 grams of gold value). If yes, Zakat of 2.5% is calculated on your net wealth.
Step 5: Review Asset Breakdown
Review the detailed breakdown showing each asset category, total assets, debts deducted, and final net wealth used for Zakat calculation.
Understanding Zakat Calculation
Zakat is calculated based on these principles: 1. Nisab: The minimum threshold equivalent to 85 grams of gold. If your net wealth is below this, no Zakat is due. 2. Zakat Rate: 2.5% (1/40) of net wealth exceeding Nisab. 3. Assets Included: Cash, gold, silver, investments, stocks, business inventory, and other liquid assets. 4. Assets Excluded: Personal residence, personal vehicles, household furniture, and business equipment. 5. Debts Deducted: Immediate/short-term debts can be deducted. Long-term debts (mortgage) are not typically deducted.
Example Calculation
Individual with savings and gold Cash Savings: SAR 50,000 Gold: 50 grams × SAR 300 = SAR 15,000 Investments: SAR 20,000 Total Assets: SAR 85,000 Debts: -SAR 5,000 Net Wealth: SAR 80,000 Nisab: 85 × 300 = SAR 25,500 Net Wealth (80,000) >= Nisab (25,500): Zakat Due Zakat: 80,000 × 2.5% = SAR 2,000

Zakat on Gold 2026: Nisab (85 g) & the 2.5% Rule
Zakat on gold is one of the most common questions for Muslims saving or investing in Saudi Arabia. Under the nisab rule, zakat becomes obligatory once your pure gold content reaches 85 grams (or 595 grams of silver) and one full Hijri year (haul) has passed.
To work out zakat on gold, first find the pure gold content: weight in grams multiplied by the karat divided by 24. For example, 100 g of 21K gold equals 87.5 g of pure gold — just above the 85 g nisab. The zakat rate is then 2.5% (1/40) of the current market value of that pure gold.
The calculator above does this for you in both gold and silver, including the 22K, 21K and 18K karat adjustments. Zakat on Property: When It Applies (Personal vs Rental vs Resale)
Whether zakat applies to property in Saudi Arabia depends on how the property is used. A personal residence is not a zakatable asset — there is no zakat on the home you live in. Likewise, a rental property is not zakatable itself.
However, zakat does apply in two situations. First, rental income that you save: once the saved amount reaches nisab and one Hijri year passes, 2.5% zakat is due on it — exactly like saved cash. Second, property held for resale as a trade asset: zakat of 2.5% is due on the current market value.
Use the Property & Investment mode above to see the ruling for your case, and the Cash & Savings mode to calculate zakat on any saved rental income.
